I am writing to you today to provide an update about BIRCH, the Brown Innovation and Research Collaborative for Health. BIRCH has made tremendous progress this past year toward integrating the research portfolios of Lifespan, Care New England, and Brown. We are on track to implement a new operational model later this calendar year.

Dr. Ira Wilson will be assuming a new role as the associate provost for academic space in the office of the Provost, after years of dedicated service as the Chair of the Department of Health Services, Policy, and Practice (HSPP) at the School of Public Health.

I am pleased to announce two important leadership transitions within the Brown University School of Public Health, effective September 1, 2023.

A pioneer in global public health for more than 35 years, Dr. Seth Berkley has been a champion of equitable access to vaccines and of innovation, and a driving force to improve the way the world prevents and responds to infectious disease. A medical doctor and infectious disease epidemiologist, Dr. Berkley joined Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance as its CEO in August 2011.
