e are delighted to announce that Alison E. Field ScD, Professor of Epidemiology, has been appointed as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the School of Public Health, effective June 1, 2022. In this role, Alison’s responsibilities will include oversight of processes pertinent to faculty searches and hiring, reappointments, promotions, annual reviews, and sabbaticals in the School. She will also represent the School with the Dean of the Faculty and relevant University Committees.
Dr. Field has been a member of the Brown faculty since 2015 and has served as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Director of the Center for Epidemiology and Environmental Health. In addition, she has been active on numerous committees across the School of Public Health and the University that have advised on faculty initiatives, including on several faculty affairs task forces, search committees, and advisory groups.
Dr. Field’s research focuses on determining the optimal classification for eating and weight-related disorders and identifying the modifiable causes, consequences, and course of overweight and eating disorders among children, adolescents, and adult women. In addition to her research, she has taught several classes at the School and mentored many students and postdoctoral trainees.
Dr. Field succeeds Nancy Barnett, Ph.D., Behavioral and Social Sciences, who held the position from 2016 until 2021. We are grateful for Professor Barnett’s service as Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and all that she has accomplished in her tenure.
