Dear SPH Faculty and Staff,
As was relayed last week in the State of the School address, SPH has experienced tremendous interest and growth in our programs over the last five years. This year, we have a record 422 masters students enrolled across our on-campus and online programs and an additional 107 Ph.D. students. That is an 11% increase over last year and more than double our enrollment from four years ago! As our programs continue to grow and evolve, so too must our support of the programs and students.
Toward that end, we are pleased to announce that Associate Professor Karen Andes has been appointed director of public health masters programs. Her adeptness and skill in administering the MPH program as director over the last year demonstrated the benefits of an expanded role. Beginning this month, she will oversee and support all SPH masters programs, including the MPH, Accelerated MPH, and Online MPH. Additionally, she will partner with Biostatistics on both the in-person and new online Biostatistics masters. The Biostatistics team will continue to direct the academic and curricular aspects of their programs.
Among her other expanded responsibilities, Karen will:
- Work with department chairs and program coordinators to oversee the responsible growth of the programs
- In partnership with Associate Dean Ron Aubert, assist with developing strategic approaches for course offerings
- Provide mentoring and support to faculty directors and concentration leads.
Please join us in congratulating Karen on her new role. With her guidance and advice, we are sure that our masters programs will continue to grow and prepare even more public health professionals for the ever-evolving challenges of the 21st century.
Sincerely,
Ronald Aubert
