Dear colleagues,
We are sharing a staffing update regarding our esteemed colleague, Alison Field. After dedicated service as the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Alison has decided to take a leave of absence.
Alison has been an integral part of the Brown faculty since 2015, holding key roles such as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Director of the Center for Epidemiology and Environmental Health. In May of 2022, she assumed the role of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. Her impact has extended beyond these positions, as she actively participated in various committees across the School of Public Health and the University. Alison's involvement in faculty initiatives, including task forces, search committees, and advisory groups, has been invaluable. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her unwavering commitment and outstanding contributions to our school.
Effective December 1, 2023, David Williams will assume the role of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the School of Public Health. Dave is exceptionally well-suited for this critical position and is poised to be a strategic leader for the school. During the next few months, he will continue his role as the director of the Center for Health Promotion and Health Equity (CHPHE) to oversee its planned move. Following an internal process, we anticipate naming an interim director for the center before spring.
As we embark on this transition, please join me in extending your best wishes to Alison as she takes this leave and offering a warm welcome to Dave in his new role. We are confident that Dave will continue to uphold the high standards set by Alison and contribute significantly to the success of our faculty affairs initiatives.
Thank you for your attention, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH
Dean, School of Public Health
Francesca L. Beaudoin, MD, Ph.D.
Interim Academic Dean and Chair of Epidemiology
