Dear All,
As I alluded to in my email yesterday, I am excited to announce another set of additions to our staff who will bring fantastic experience and leadership to the School.
First, I am delighted to welcome Kathryn Kempton Amaral, who started as Senior Director of Public Health Leadership on January 5. In this new role, she is leading an effort to build a dynamic and comprehensive leadership development program that will integrate essential leadership skills into the public health and global health education offered at Brown to enhance our capacity to train our students as the next generation of leaders in the field.
Kathryn is a global health professional with more than 20 years of experience in non-profit operations, logistics, project management, and communications. She joins Brown from the Harvard Global Health Institute, where she served as the Director of Education, Research, and Operations and successfully launched the Harvard LEAD Fellowship to Promote Women in Global Health, now in its second year. Previously, she worked in The Netherlands for the IDA Foundation, a non-profit supplier of generic essential medicines, where she managed the HIV/AIDS portfolio and assumed marketing responsibilities that leveraged her global health experience and communication skills. Kathryn has a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and recently completed her master’s degree in Organizational Communication and Leadership from Northeastern University.
Next, I am happy to share that the following people will join SPH over the next two weeks:
Tina M. Fogell, Director of Human Resources, will lead and manage all human resources areas for staff and student employment, working closely with the Executive Dean of SPH and central University Human Resources. An HR professional with over 10 years of experience, Tina is also an attorney, licensed in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She is currently the Chief Operating Officer for the Bristol Warren Regional School District, where she oversees the human resources, facilities, finance, and technology functions of the district. Tina has worked with a number of K-12 educational organizations over the last 10 years, handling all facets of human resources. As a practicing attorney for over 15 years, Tina focused a large part of her practice in employment law. Tina will start January 25.
Andrea Capotosto, Director of Budget, Finance, and Strategic Analysis, will be primarily responsible for creating and maintaining the School’s financial information, including financial reporting; managing its internal financial processes in tandem with the University’s budgeting, forecasting, and year-end close; and maximizing transparency for analysis and planning. Andrea has been at Brown for four years, working as an Assistant Director of Academic Finance and Administration. She will bring valuable experience from helping the School of Engineering and School of Professional Studies restructure their finances. Along with her MBA and CPA, Andrea earned dual degrees from Bryant University in Finance and Accounting. Most of her career has been focused on the not-for-profit healthcare sector, including behavioral healthcare and most recently as Controller of a software programming company developing health information exchange technology. She is a Rhode Island native and first generation college graduate. Andrea will also start January 25.
Victoria Kabakian, Administrative Coordinator, will provide administrative support to the Dean’s Office—including greeting visitors, providing building access, and coordinating space—as well as to the associate deans. She holds a BS in Film & Television from Boston University and an AS in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University. Victoria spent several years living in Los Angeles and New York City where she worked on award-winning television shows like The Simpsons, Dexter, and Nurse Jackie. She later launched a successful food blog (Mission Food Adventure) where she features recipes from around the world. Her passions include cooking, baking, traveling, and cheering for the Boston Bruins. Victoria is also a huge Disney fan. She previously served as the Center Coordinator for Brown's Department of Physics. Victoria will start on February 1.
Please join me in welcoming Kathryn, and I look forward to you being able to virtually meet Tina, Andrea, and Victoria over the coming weeks. I am thrilled to add these outstanding members to our team and am eager to work with them to help our School grow and achieve even more.
Sincerely,
Ashish K. Jha, MD, MPH
