Message from Leadership

By Interim Dean Francesca Beaudoin

The start of a new year and new term often brings a sense of excitement and renewal, but I recognize that this year, it might bring a complex mix of emotions for many of you.

Dear SPH Community,

As we look toward the start of the spring semester tomorrow, I want to first welcome back those of you just returning from the winter break. After the fall semester ended earlier than expected following the tragic events on December 13, I am really looking forward to the spring semester and being in community with all of you as we navigate recovery, heal together and advance our still critical work.

The start of a new year and new term often brings a sense of excitement and renewal, but I recognize that this year, it might bring a complex mix of emotions for many of you. As we re-enter our shared spaces both on and off campus, our priority remains the well-being of every member of our school and Brown community. We will move forward together with care and connection. Resources are available for those who need them and are listed on the Brown Ever True website. I encourage you to check there regularly for updates on support services, programming and other resources.

Now, more than ever, the importance of our mission is clear. Whether through our teaching, learning, groundbreaking research or the vital translation of that work into policy and practice, our efforts serve as a testament to the impact we can have when we work together toward a healthier, safer world. Our work is not just what we do; it is how we show up for one another.

As we settle into the rhythm of the new semester, I want to ensure we stay connected. Executive Dean Sara Walsh and I will be holding office hours to hear your thoughts and check in as we move forward. You can find the specific dates and sign-up details in the SPH Announcements section further down in this newsletter.

Additionally, to welcome everyone back, the Dean’s Office is hosting a drop-in lunch tomorrow from 12 to 1 p.m. in the lounge on the 3rd floor. All are welcome to drop in, say hello and grab a slice (or two!) of pizza as we begin the semester.

I am honored to lead this community, and I can’t wait to see you all back in our halls, classrooms and on campus as we begin a new semester and new year, and move forward together.

Ever True,
