Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to share that Peter J. Lipman, Ph.D., joined the School of Public Health as an associate professor of the practice of biostatistics on April 1, 2025 following a successful search conducted last summer and fall. Peter is a results-driven leader in the tech sector with extensive experience in data science, survey design, and machine learning applications. We are thrilled to have him come on board.
Peter joins us from Google, where he held the role of technical lead and manager in Data Science & Human Computation for Ads from 2013-2022 and for the Play Store since 2022. He earned his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Harvard University and his B.A. in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University.
Peter’s passion for problem-solving and dedication to applying analytics to research in ways that benefit society make him an ideal addition to our SPH team. His primary focus will be teaching, particularly in our online master’s program in Biostatistics. I am confident that his extensive experience in the corporate world, combined with his enthusiasm for applied statistics, data analytics, machine learning and effective product strategies, will inspire his students, just as it has shaped his successful career.
Many thanks to the search committee for their hard work throughout this process.
Please join me in welcoming Peter to our growing community of public health leaders and experts.
Sincerely,

Ashish K. Jha, M.D., MPH
Dean, School of Public Health
