Dear SPH Community,
Celebrating the accomplishments of our students, faculty and staff is essential to maintaining a strong sense of community, mutual support and shared success. In that spirit, I am pleased to announce that we will be hosting our third annual Dean’s Awards Ceremony for faculty excellence, alumni impact and staff excellence in leadership and innovation. Winning posters from our National Public Health Week research event, Public Health Research Day, will also be honored at the event. The Dean’s Awards Ceremony will take place on April 16th from 4 - 5:30 pm at the Hope Club.
Nominations are now open for the Faculty and Community Partner Awards and the Staff Awards. Nominations may be submitted by SPH students, postdocs, staff and faculty, and all nominations are due Friday, February 28, 2025.

Faculty Awards, Community Partner Award
These annual awards, instituted in 2010, recognize outstanding contributions in teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Public Health, as well as in interdisciplinary and collaborative research with University colleagues and community partners. The awards recognize campus-based faculty leaders who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research collaboration and community engagement that goes above and beyond the usual call of duty.
The awards are as follows:
- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching in Public Health
- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring in Public Health
- Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research Collaboration
Honors interdisciplinary collaborations with another division(s) or unit(s) within Brown University. - Dean’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement
Honors a faculty member with demonstrated exemplary commitment to community engagement that helps to create meaningful change through community-engaged research, public health practice and/or community service. - Dean's Community Partner Award
Recognizes a community organization that has established a strong reciprocal and sustainable relationship contributing to our School of Public Health's culture of engaged research, teaching and service, strengthening the communities we serve.
You may nominate one faculty member per faculty award category, utilizing the faculty & community partner nomination form.
Staff Awards
These awards recognize School of Public Health staff members who have made a significant contribution or provided outstanding service to our school:
- Excellence in Innovation
For showing outstanding creativity when confronted with challenges, issues or a need or desire for improvement. - Excellence in Leadership
For demonstrating a unique ability to guide and inspire others, which in turn contributes to the effective and efficient functioning of the school.
Any School of Public Health regular or fixed-term staff member in good standing and with a minimum of one (1) year of service at the School of Public Health may be nominated for an award. Full criteria and eligibility requirements are available on the staff nomination form.
