To our SPH community,

Brandon Marshall Ph.D., has decided to step down from his role as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology for personal reasons effective May 1, 2024. Professor Marshall will also step down from his role as director of the Center for Epidemiologic Research. He will stay on as an active member of our faculty.

I am very pleased to share that Joseph Braun, RN, MSPH, Ph.D., professor of epidemiology, has agreed to serve as interim Chair upon Brandon’s departure. Joe will also take over as the interim director of the Center for Epidemiologic Research. In the coming weeks, my office will announce the process to identify a permanent chair for the Department.

While I know this transition may be unexpected, I am personally deeply grateful to Joe for stepping in to play this role during this moment.
