Ronald Aubert Ph.D., MSPH was the interim dean of the Brown University School of Public Health. He is visiting professor of the practice of health services, policy and practice at the School of Public Health, and of race and ethnicity at the Brown University Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America. He served as interim dean while Dean Ashish Jha was on temporary assignment as the White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator.

Dean Aubert, an epidemiologist, is a dedicated teacher and accomplished administrator. Brown's Presidential Scholars Program, which he directs, focuses on attracting and mentoring high-performing undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups interested in STEM, social sciences, and the humanities to provide them the support to realize their full academic potential. In his time as interim associate dean of diversity and inclusion at the School of Public Health, Dean Aubert has focused on increasing the diversity of students enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs and helped to advance several strategic priorities, including the School’s partnerships with HBCUs.

In announcing Aubert’s appointment as interim dean, Richard M. Locke, at the time Brown University's provost, said, “the School of Public Health, which has already grown quickly since its founding in 2013, is poised to significantly expand its impact and reach through teaching, research, and public service. Ron will help further the school’s progress toward its established plans for academic and operational excellence, fundraising, and research space over the coming year.”

With experience working in the academy, government sector, and health care organizations, Dean Aubert has a deep and unique background in public health. In addition to teaching at Brown, he has held academic appointments at the University of North Carolina, Rutgers University, and Emory University. Early in his career, Dean Aubert worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, initially as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer and later as the Chief of Epidemiology in the Division of Diabetes Translation. While on assignment at the CDC, he was a Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service. He later moved into a series of leadership roles focused on issues related to financing and delivery at health care organizations, including Bayer Healthcare, Medco Health Solutions, Aetna, and Research & Evaluation Analytics.

Aubert earned a B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College, MSPH and Ph.D. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and completed the Epidemic Intelligence Service fellowship at the CDC.

Currently Ronald Aubert serves as Senior Associate Dean of Education for the School of Public Health.
